Today on my way home I decided to go home via a different U-Bahn station and followed the green U4 signs to my platform. But during my walk another shade of green caught my eye...Starbucks. Up until this moment I managed to avoid all American establishments in Vienna but the temptation was too much - I hadn't had iced anything in a while since it's not common in Austria plus I thought I deserved a little treat ; )
I backtracked and was the last to make an order before closing. I walked out smiling, coveting my cup of icy caffeine - not two steps out the door I dropped my coffee. It splattered all over the floor, my shoes, and my jacket. I took a brief moment to mourn and avoiding all eye contact I gathered the cup and lid to throw away. When I went back into Starbucks the barista, who had seen the whole thing happen, grabbed a cup and made me another. When she handed it to me I was so happy all I could think to say was a rather exuberant and über appreciative, "Du bist der beste!"
A little kindness goes a long way...SO thank you blonde barista in the Karlsplatz U-Bahn station for the best iced coffee I have ever had.
